Apple TV Plus is one of the newer streaming platforms that is fighting for your attention, and there is a good reason to start watching. It is equipped with big names and some hit shows, from the first season of Severance to the cordially sympathetic Ted Lass to Reese Witherspoon Emmy-winning drama The Morning Show.
Like rivals Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV Plus is filled with exclusive, original content. But unlike other services, Apple only transmits content that it has made itself. This meant that when the service was launched in November 2019, the catalog was not huge, but it was filling up quickly.
Here’s what’s coming to the streaming service this month, followed by our guide to some of the best TV shows on Apple TV Plus.

The best Apple TV Plus series
This show has a fascinating premise: people can choose to undergo a procedure called severance pay, which separates their work-related and personal memories. The character of Adam Scott spends eight hours a day in a disinfected, strikingly white office space, not remembering his outside life. A former colleague soon appears with a warning about the strange company. A stunning and tense sci-fi thriller – enjoying Severance is not a job.

A comic mystery of murder in the same spirit as Ryan Johnson’s 2019 film Knives Taken Out, The Afterparty is a stellar lunatic who will make you guess and laugh in every episode. Tiffany Haddish, Dave Franco, Ilana Glazer, Ben Schwartz and others put their talents into the show. If you opt for a mix of mystery and comedy, The Afterparty should be right at the top of your to-stream list.

In this British comedy, the couple Nikki and Jason want to have a baby, but are struggling to get pregnant. They decide to adopt – a process that inevitably poses new challenges. The attempt offers charm and low-stakes entertainment, and it also happens to be funny out loud. If you need some relaxed TV time, this show covers you.

You don’t have to love sports to love the Ted Lasso comedy series. Produced by Golden Globe-winning star Jason Sudeikis and Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence, it follows relentless American coach Ted Lasso as he takes over the British team. Think of it as crossing Friday Night Lights with Saturday Night Live (in London). Season 2 is now airing.

psychiatrist by the door (2021)
In my book, every show in which both Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd are starring is already doing something very right. In the drama mini-series The Shrink Next Door, Ferrell and Rudd play characters at opposite ends of the personality spectrum – Ferrell is a snotty, shy textile business owner, and his colleague is a selfish therapist with manipulative tendencies. When the two of them are together, the result is both disturbing and enticing, making The Shrink Next Door something you’ll want to check for yourself.

Mosquito Coast (2021-)
Justin Theroux plays Allie Fox, a strange inventor who excluded his family in protest of society’s failure. Apple’s heavyweight drama is based on a novel by the actor’s uncle Paul Theroux (previously filmed with Harrison Ford in 1986). Now that the first season is over, Apple has already updated this modern version of The Mosquito Coast for the second season.

Adapted by Stephen King from his own novel, Lisey’s story plays Julianne Moore as a grieving widow who eerily returns to marry her late husband, a famous novelist played by Clive Owen.

Apple
Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman return to cycling and head north from Argentina through South and Central America. In this sequel to the popular travel shows Long Way Round and Long Way Down, the petrol duo turns green. They cover 13,000 miles and 13 countries on Harley-Davidson LiveWire electric motorcycles. It premiered on September 18 last year, and new episodes are regularly broadcast on Apple TV Plus.

Apple
Morning show (2019-)
Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston are producing and starring in a timely series that deals with office politics in the #MeToo era, while the TV network is shaken by the indiscretion of the host played by Steve Carell. Among the striking performances, Billy Crudup won the Outstanding Supporting Actor Award in the drama series at the 2020 Emmy Awards. The award-winning drama, strong cast and timely themes make the Morning Show worth watching.

Apple TV Plus
A show about nature, focused on small creatures, told by Ant-Man himself, Paul Rudd. Absolute genius.
Like seemingly each of these modern nature documentaries, Tiny World is beautifully shot and brilliantly compelling.

Apple
Ordinary people have big dreams in Little America. The heavyweight cast tells stories of immigrants living their lives in a touching anthology series full of funny, sweet, romantic and often surprising stories.

Apple
Sixth Sense director M. Night Shyamalan brings his brand of creepy domestic drama to episodic TV in Servant, created and written by Tony Basgallop. After a devastating loss, two grieving parents adopt a hyperrealistic doll to help them cope with their grief, but danger and deception lurk in the children’s room.

Apple
Truth Be Told is a drama for fans of true crime, which in a fictionalized form follows the recent trend of crime podcasts. Octavia Spencer and Aaron Paul play podcasters and prisoners who were united by a horrific crime years before, launching a human unit that draws both their families into a fun mix of drama driven by characters like Big Little Lies with true crime stories like Making Killers and Stairs.

Apple
Dickinson takes the story of the real American poet Emily Dickinson and turns it into a kind of drama from the period. It’s hardly historically true – Emily and her teenage friends act more like Riverdale characters – but it’s fun.

Apple
Home before dark (2020-)
Inspired by real-life journalist Hilda Lysiak’s report, Home Before Dark follows the story of a young girl who moves from Brooklyn to a small lake town. It starts out slow, but has some strong central performances, especially in the lead role.

Apple
Mythical Quest: Raven’s Banquet (2020-)
Mythic Quest: Raven’s Banquet is a must for anyone who has at least a passing interest in video games or the industry that produces them. She is unique, witty and partly honest. It walks through familiar territory, but is worth a look.

Apple
Chris Evans stars in a dark legal drama about a family caught in the mystery of the Massachusetts murder. Jacob’s defense may be familiar territory, but fans of absorbing character-driven crime dramas will be drawn in.
