Prime Video: 20 best science fiction movies to watch

Posted on June 8, 2022 By admin No Comments on Prime Video: 20 best science fiction movies to watch

Prime Video is the host of a surprisingly wide range of science fiction stories. There are absolute classics – Terminator, to cite a reference to Stranger Things – and there they are hidden gems that more people have to look at. He is one of them Coherencewhich is widely considered the best hidden science fiction gem.

Scroll down for our best choices for sci-fi movies you can stream to Prime Video now.

Tollywood

Behind Infinite Two Minutes (2020)

How cool and intriguing is that title? Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes is a low-budget comedy about time travel through Japanese director Junte Yamaguchi. Wild premise: A cafe worker discovers that TV can show him what happens in 2 minutes in the future. Obviously there is much more to it than that, and the results are creative and trip as much as you can expect under the limitations of indie film. Gem.

United Artists

Invasion of the Body Kidnappers (1978)

Remakes are rarely better than the original, but sometimes there are exceptional exceptions. The 1978 version of The Body Abductor Invasion builds on the already great 1956 sci-fi horror, telling the story of a health inspector and his colleagues who realize that people in San Francisco are slowly being replaced by drone-like replicas. Creating an atmosphere full of fear and paranoia, with Donald Sutherland at the helm, The Invasion of the Body Hijackers has been hailed as one of the best science fiction of all time.

No need to talk much about the first in the Terminator franchise. Apparently born out of a feverish dream, James Cameron’s story gives us a cyborg killer sent from the future to kill Sarah Connor, whose unborn son is destined to save humanity from a robotic apocalypse.

Before Dina, Denis Villeneuve directed another huge classic sci-fi. In the film Arrival, she plays Amy Adams as a linguist who has suffered a personal tragedy in the past. When a mysterious alien spaceship hovers over Earth, she is recruited to make contact – with completely unexpected, life-changing results. Arrival is a complete package, with performances, cinematography and writing that are … out of this world.

Paramount Pictures

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

The second Star Trek movie in the re-launched franchise shows a great adventure with the unforgettable villain in Can Benedict Cumberbatch. A gang at the USS Enterprise travels to a restricted area in space to save an endangered species. Although a bit outdated – the scene in underwear without compensation and the change of ethnicity for Khan – Into Darkness is an exciting journey.

The fifth element is not for everyone, but if you are in the mood for an optional space adventure, it will bring you all the opera performances of blue aliens you could wish for. Follow Corben Dallas, a taxi driver caught in pursuit of a mysterious fifth element that can defeat a cosmic evil force.

Oh, look, this is another Roland Emmerich movie! This one follows the Earth’s resistance soldiers who are fighting against alien attacks, events that are inscribed in the calendar for July 4.

Buena Vista Pictures

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005)

Sci-fi comedy isn’t always successful, and this adaptation by Douglas Adams will be either weird in a good way if you’re familiar with the original material, or weird in a ridiculous, confusing way. My 13-year-old loved it.

Amazon Prime Video

It’s hard to leave The Tomorrow War off this list, as it’s the big science fiction shareholder Prime Video starring Chris Pratt. Follow a school teacher who is involved in a war with aliens – in the future. An easily digestible movie that you can watch while watching the phone.

The vivarium is interesting. It might frustrate many viewers with its surreal aspects, but it is still a compelling film. The young couple is trapped in a maze of identical houses in the suburbs. As they try to escape, they find themselves caring for a mysterious baby.

Emile Hirsch stars in this sci-fi horror about a father who keeps his 7-year-old daughter locked up in their house all her life. Chloe inevitably seeks outdoor entertainment, leading to inexplicable occurrences and conflicts with the state department. Impressive work with the father-daughter relationship at its core.

Remember Dane DeHaan from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 starring in this found sci-fi video? He plays a teenager without a friend who develops telekinetic abilities. What begins as a way of having fun and cheating results in an act that goes too far. With an indication of the story of the origin of the superhero, Chronicle is a clever science fiction shareholder in the documentary style.

A sci-fi shareholder who put director Neil Blomkamp on the map. The hybrid found footage takes you straight into the intense action of the alternate 1982, when an alien spaceship appears over Johannesburg in Africa. A unique, exciting and somewhat political classic.

Yes, this is a prequel movie. Yes, this is the fifth in the Alien franchise. Yes, he is grandiose and his plot does not do justice to the stunning visuals. But Prometheus introduced us to the brilliantly creepy and disturbing android David, played by Michael Fassbender. His action may not make full sense in the end, but the fun value of this sci-fi horror cannot be taken away.

Amazon Studios

This low-budget indie has surprisingly high production values, impressive performance and an inventive camera that helps tell the story of two teenagers in New Mexico in the 50s. A resourceful couple chases a potential alien origin of a mysterious audio frequency.

City of Lost Children (1995)

Before Amélie, Jean-Pierre Jeunet brought his flair and visual styles into sci-fi fantasy (directed by Marc Caro). The City of Lost Children follows an evil scientist who kidnaps children, thinking their dreams are the key to preventing aging.

For those who miss the Black Mirror, this will fill that gap to some extent. A black box follows a father trying to put his life together after a car accident. He agrees to an experimental procedure that takes him to the darkest corners of his mind.

Coherence doesn’t need an Avatar-sized budget to make a compelling story. The low-budget indie film follows friends at dinner who begin to notice bizarre appearances after the comet passes. Even more disturbing because of its established environment, Coherence is a short indie gem.

An intriguing premise? Check. Low budget? Check. Reverse in the end? Check. This indie sci-fi mystery by Travis Milloy solidifies its place in the search for “best indie sci-fi gems” in Google search. The complex story of Infinity Chamber focuses on a man being held in an automated detention facility. He has to fight with superior technology to escape, which is an extremely difficult feat.

For a well-made, thoughtful science fiction that takes care not to let its meditations overtake the value of entertainment, Archive is a great call. In Gavin Rothery’s British directorial debut, he plays Theo James as a scientist who works to make artificial intelligence as human as possible. His reasons are hidden, personal and will surely trigger the key. Comparing it to Ex Machina, Archive is a safe storytelling with a keen focus on character.
