‘Ma’am. Recapitulation of the 1st episode of Marvel: Easter Eggs and Post-Credits

Finally, the moment everyone has been waiting for … the new Disney Plus series Mrs. Marvel brings an animated introduction courtesy of Marvel’s superfan Kamala Khan, revealing her love for superheroes and Captain Marvel especially. This is new Marvel movie universe the hero has a lot going on in her life, but things will get complicated for this teenage dreamer when she suddenly develops cosmic superpowers …

The the first of six episodes of the series is now available on Disney’s streaming service, and still follows them every Wednesday until July 13th. Let’s dive into a detailed review of Episode 1, including character bows, Marvel Easter Eggs and the post-credit scene (and lots of SPOILERS!)

Marvel apartment

The first thing we learn about Kamala (which he plays Iman Vellani) is that she is a big fan of MCU superheroes. Named Sloth Baby, this teenager from New Jersey has even created an animated 10-part series about Captain Marvel, which teaches us that someone can come out of nowhere and do something amazing (like punching Thanos in the face).

The premiere episode focuses on Kamala’s efforts to go to an AvengerCon fan event. As a kind of fictional version of the MCU apartment, Kamala gives Marvel a chance to return the lens to the fans. The show celebrates the passion and creativity of fans like Kamala, but there are some hints about the dark side of the fandom.

Among Kamala’s Youtube suggestions, he saw a video titled “He was bitten by a radioactive feminist?” – a subtle reference to the many misogynistic and racist blasphemies that appear on YouTube. And while the series clearly sets Zoe as a possible antagonist, Kamala and Bruno are guilty of guarding the gate against their glamorous classmate when they see her at AvengerCon. Who can say that Zoe’s fandom is less authentic just because it has many more followers?

Still, Kamala at least saves Zoe’s life, even if it was her fault that Zoe hit Thor’s hammer.

Cosmic powers

In the series, Ms. Marvel’s powers allow her to fire a strange crystal light from her hands, strong enough to cut off Ant-Man’s head before breaking into pieces. When its power is first manifested, it is turned upside down into a realm of shadowy shapes with purple shining eyes.

This differs from her powers in comics, where she has the power to stretch and distort her body. The play shows off her bending and stretching powers with a huge gleaming hand reaching out and grabbing Zoe as she falls.

The source of her power is also different. In comics, Kamala gained her superpowers by exposing the Terrigen fog that awakened her dormant inhuman powers. Inhumans appeared on the screen – theirs silent leader Black Boltplayed by Anson Mount, has appeared Dr. Strange in the multiverse of madness – But Inhumans TV show there was a rare MCU ignition delay. So, the new Disney Plus series enriches both Kamala’s powers and their source to fit into the aesthetics and story of the MCU.

The cool thing about Kamala’s adapted powers is that they come from a family heirloom. Mysterious objects often appear in stories about the origins of superheroes, but the key thing is that Kamala did not just run into this powerful object: it is explicitly connected to her background and heritage.

Bara Hulk and Choti Hulk

One of the many ways Ms. Marvel feels fresh is presenting a young Muslim girl on screen. The series is a rounded, nuanced depiction of a Pakistani American family. Although Kamala is in conflict over her role in her family and culture, she is not a one-dimensional character who fights oppression, and her overbearing mother is more than a stereotype.

The show shows the micro-aggressions that colored people face every day, such as teachers who blatantly mispronounce Kamal’s name, as well as social pressures on young people, such as aunts who disapprove of women who decide not to marry or even associate with to people outside their culture.

“We are the first show to show religion, the balance between school and life,” Pakistani Canadian star Vellani told The Guardian. “I went to a very diverse school and it’s so important to show a child of immigrant parents who are proud of their culture, don’t neglect it and don’t feel the need to separate from religion, family or their culture to become their own person.”

For CNET’s Abrar Al-Heeti, Ms. Marvel is part of a long-overdue movement that has moved away from decades of portraying Muslim figures as terrorists and bad guys.

“In recent years, more shows have included authentic representation,” she writes in a study of Ms. Marvel’s cultural significance, “like Hulu’s Ramy and NBC’s Transplant. But Ms. Marvel takes it to the next level by introducing the world to a young, ambitious superhero whose most powerful attribute will undoubtedly be her ability to break stereotypes and show how teenage struggles can be connected regardless of our background. “

After all, the timeless power of the superhero myth is not just in the blows that shatter the city between guys in leggings: secret identities, great powers and great responsibilities inspire young people of every generation.

Kamala, Bruno and Nakia attend Coles Academic High School, founded in 1979. The school inscription lists several writers and artists who have been instrumental in creating comics about Ms. Marvel since her debut in 2013. Among them are the people who created Ms. Marvel: writer G .Willow Wilson, editor Stephen Wacker, artists Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie, as well as artists Ian Herring, Nico Leon, Takeshi Miyazawa and writer Joe Caramagna.

Oddly, there is no mention of Sana Amanat, the Pakistani-American editor of Marvel who also co-created Ms. Marvel. However, she is the executive producer of the series.

Wilson is also mentioned in school Mulan-quoting a guidance counselor, g. Wilson, whose initials appear to be GWW.

Scene after credit

At the end of the episode we see some agents of the U.S. Department of Damage Control, Cleary and Deever. You may recognize Cleary as one of the agents questioning Peter Parker Spider-Man: No way homeplayed by Arian Moayed from Success and Inventing Anna. Deevera plays Alysia Reiner from Orange is the new black.

Irritating, this is not really a bonus or a tease, but a literal presentation of some of the main characters. Anyone who shuts down the show when the credit goes will have no idea who these important people are when they show up in the next episode. Scenes after the loan are not for this!
